Australian Institute of Technology & Education provides quality Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs ranging from Certificate to Advanced Diploma level.

What is Vocational education and training (VET)

Vocational education and training (VET) is 'education and training for work'. The Australian VET system is one of the most sophisticated in the world because it is:
  • Industry-led - The employers, unions and professional associations of an industry define the outcomes that are required from training.
  • National - The VET system is jointly-managed by state, territory and Australian governments, in partnership with industry and training providers.
  • Client focused - Clients of the VET system are employers and individuals who use it or intend to use it. This simple, flexible and relevant system responds to client needs.

Competency Based Training (CBT)

Competency Based Training (CBT) provides delivery assessment and certification of training that relates to the demonstration of skills, knowledge and attitudes and the application required for effective performance in the workplace.

Nationally agreed statements called Competency Standards are used to describe the skills and knowledge required for a person to operate effectively in the workplace. They contain descriptors of outcomes to be achieved (Elements) and criteria for performance (Performance Criteria).

Competency Based Training allows for the required level of performance and expected mode of assessment to be made clear prior to the commencement of training, with the rate at which a learner will progress through the program determined by their demonstrated competence rather than by time spent engaged in study.

Assessment, under the Competency Based Training system takes into account the participants knowledge and attitudes but requires actual performance of the competency as the primary source of evidence. To be deemed competent the learner must be able to perform a skill to a specific standard under specific conditions.

What is a Training Package

A Training Package is a set of nationally-endorsed standards, guidelines and qualifications used to recognise and assess the skills and knowledge people need to perform effectively in the workplace. Training packages are developed by industry to meet the training needs of an industry or group of industries.

A Training Package states what competencies need to be achieved but does not prescribe how an individual should be trained. It is the responsibility of the RTO, through its trainers, to develop teaching strategies and assessment methods to meet the needs, abilities and circumstances of learners.

What is the AQTF?

The Australian Quality Training Framework 2007 (AQTF 2007) is the national set of standards which assures nationally consistent, high-quality training and assessment services for the clients of Australia’s vocational education and training system.
