The Community Services industry in Australia, like most others, is in the midst of significant ongoing changes that are redefining the workforce and its training needs. Field based work experience continues to play a key role in training for the industry. Gain focused information on changes and current trends in education for the community sector from experienced educators and welfare professionals.

Kathryn Marriott is a qualified Secondary Teacher, VET Trainer/Assessor and Project Officer and studied an Honours in Applied Science with a major in Psychology and Disability Studies.
Kathryn has worked in the welfare field – through the education industry – with children, young people and adults as an educator and pastoral carer. She has accumulated three years experience working with students or clients with special needs that included cognitive impariment, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, mental illness and/or physical disabilities.
Kathryn now coordinates the Community Services program at Australian Institute of Technology & Education (AITE). She manages a team of up to twenty-four staff who deliver the program for up to four hundred international students.
Kathryn has four years experience in program coordination prior to joining AITE and has also worked in quality control and student service roles at various training organisations. She has four years experience in secondary teaching and was the International Student Coordinator for over two dozen students during that time. Kathryn has supervised numerous provisional teachers and VET Trainers/Assessors and has represented numerous curriculum committees.

Irene Lambrianidis is a qualified Social Worker with a Bachelor of Social Work (Monash University) and Bachelor of Social Sciences (La Trobe University). She is also a qualified VET Trainer/Assessor.
Irene has sixteen years experience in the Social Work field, in community health, employment services, child protection and the training and vocational field.
She has significant experience working with trainees undertaking field placement. Irene lived in a Swan Hill for two years where she was responsible for planning and developing placement tasks for community services at TAFE level. She has also supervised students on field placement while working in employment and counseling fields. This experience has confirmed for her that students can contribute real value to organisations.
With her experience in host supervision and field placement curriculum development, Irene has found herself in a unique position to address the gap for both students and hosts organisations. She has applied this knowledge in her roles as a Trainer and Field Placement Coordinator within Community Welfare programs.
Irene now coordinates the Community Services Field Placement program at Australian Institute of Technology & Education (AITE). Irene has brought to the position extensive networks within the community education sector and has further developed these networks to extend to a variety of welfare settings.
