On Sunday 12 July, the Premier of Victoria, John Brumby invited all Victorians to join him on the Walk for Harmony to reaffirm to the world Victoria's strong support for multiculturalism. The Harmony Walk began at Carlton Gardens and proceeded through Melbourne's central business district to Federation Square.
Staff and students from Australian Institute of Technology & Education (AITE) joined the Walk for Harmony to highlight the positive contribution of international students to the state of Victoria. More then 10,000 people from Victorian communities joined the walk to recognise and celebrate the enormous contribution of ethnic, cultural and religious communities to the state.
"Now is the time to highlight to a national and international audience that our commitment to multiculturalism is stronger than ever and that the Victorian community values the contributions that people from around the world have made to our state," Mr Brumby said.
Bill Kardamitsis JP – Chief Executive Officer of AITE – on behalf of AITE, thanked The Premier for arranging this event to highlight cultural diversity in Victoria.
